于令仪是曹州（今山东菏泽）人,是个市场中的小摊贩业者；他为人宽厚,很少得罪别人,晚年时的家道颇为富足.有天晚上,一名小偷侵入他家中行窃,结果被他的几个儿子逮住了,发现原来是邻居的小孩.于令仪问他说:“你平常很少犯过错,何苦今天做贼呢?”小偷回答说：“因受贫困所迫的缘故.”于令仪再问他想要什麼东西,小偷说：“能得到十千钱,便足令衣食无忧了.”于令仪听后就如数给了他.正在那小偷要出门离去时,于令仪又叫住他,这使得那小偷大为恐惧,但于令仪对他说：“你如此的贫困,晚上带著十千钱回去,恐怕会引起巡逻人员的盘查.”于是将小偷留下,天亮后才让他离去.那小偷深感惭愧,后来终于成了良民.邻居乡里都称令仪是好人.令仪选择子侄中的优秀者,办了学校,请有名望的教书先生来执教.儿子及侄子于杰效,陆续考中了进士,成为曹州南面一带的望族.
