学院是COLLEGE,大学是UNIVERSITY（当然了我好像在说废话）.另外还有INSTITUTE.
COLLEGE和UNI是有根本性区别的.
COLLEGE只是指具有高等教育的学校的通称,或者指只有大学（或本科）课程的学校,或隶属于某大学（或单独某专科）的某专业的院校,如没有其他学科的音乐学院美术学院,以独立的机构成立,同时颁发大学文凭.还有的称为Junior College,有的称为Community College,也有的就叫College,还有的叫做Technical College,两年制的大学或大学的预科,一般是低于本科学历的高等教育,有点类似于我们的大专吧.
University通常是指一所设有文理科及专业课程的大学,且有至少一种领域的研究所,和至少一种的学士学位后的专业课程（如：医学、牙医或法律）.
UNI一般按我的理解,要高于COLLEGE,同时UNIVERSITY可能包含很多COLLEGE,比如伦敦大学U OF LONDON,下面有许多学院都非常著名的,单独参加排名的.IMPERIAL COLLEGE也是非常著名的,全世界最好的理工科学院,还有伦敦经政学院,那都是出来在联合国工作的～
预科没有什么特别好坏的,不过MANCHESTER CITY COLLEGE曼城城市学院的预科我所知道的声名狼藉.曼大自己的预科还可以.预科没有特别排名,建议你只要找一个UNIVERSITY的预科,比COLLEGE预科要好,因为许多COLLEGE专门做预科赚钱的,师资什么的都没有UNI好.

大学预科亦称大学基础课程（University Foundation Year）,属大学前的预备教育,一般为一年.大学预科是西方教育体系中重要的一环,它在国外教育体系中属于高等教育的范畴,由于大学预科在从基础教育顺利接轨高等教育的阶段中所起的不可替代的作用,它被称为高中教育跨越到高等教育的重要基石.
大学预科
原因有二：
其一,无论是国内或在西方教育体系中,基础教育与高等教育在知识结构和教学方法等方面在客观上都存在着较大的跨度.即使在国内,我们大学一年级新生也普遍感到对大学教学、生活的不适应,甚至感到有些茫然.在我们的中学,更多的是知识被动的灌输；而在大学,则是教授指导下对知识的探索.中学数学中的几何、代数培养学生形象思维,而大学的微积分、线形代数则是抽象的思维能力,仅就数学而言,跨度就如此之大.预科作为预备课程,将大学必修课中最重要,最基础的知识,比如高等数学、语言文学、计算机科学等重要科目下放一部分,深入浅出,循序渐进,帮助学生打好坚实的基础,为大学生活与学习做好充分准备,因此,该课程也被通称为通往大学的大学“基础课程”、“桥梁课程”.
其二,就是人们常说的文化“震颤”（culture shock）,最大的困难就是语言了.虽然我们的高中学生在国内大多都学习了5、6年以上的英语了,甚至雅思6分了,但初到国外,刚开始还是听“天书”似的,在脑子里不停地将英文翻译到中文,在表达时又将中文翻到英文.我们知道,真正在语言上过关需要一定时间的正规培训与适应,才能做到完全“甩开”中文,用英文来思维,甚至做梦都用英文.因此,预科对国际学生克服文化、语言差异带来的种种困难起着至关重要的作用.

I am 26 years old,born in shandong province .
I was graduated from qingdao university. my major is electronic.and i got my bachelor degree after my graduation in the year of 2003.

After several days of researching I found some gap between the universities/colleges of China and other counties.That is methology.
Methology,as I mensioned before,all of the universities/colleges in China are Teaching & Learning.Meanwhile most of the univeisities/colleges of other countries like UK are Surpervising & Researching.
In China,all teachers,mension this noun,will show up in the classroom/theater almost everyday and explain the almost all of the clauses on textbook.On the other hand,surpervisors,mension this noun as well,will arrange their schedules for everyone with one hour for discussion.They will answer all of your questions about the courses.You should do the reseach yourself and raise your own opinion for your course work.This the difference of teaching and learning methology.
When the end of terms,the term tests will make students crazy in China.Some of the students will attend the supplementary examination after holiday.But students of other countries will finish their courses work at the end of terms and the courses works might be a presentation or a report.This is the difference of teaching and learning results.
In China,Students Union is a tool of Universities" leaders to lock down their students.But the SU of other countries are leaders of all students which they voted.All events will be hold by SU and the budgets sponsors will be found by all their own.
These are some basic difference between Universities/colleges of China and other countries.
