Kobe Bryant was born with basketball already in his blood.His dad was former NBA star Joe "Jellybean" Bryant,who played for the 76ers,Clippers and Rockets.When Kobe was six years old,Joe started playing basketball in Europe,so the Bryant family moved to Italy.The family stayed there for seven years.While living in Italy,Kobe learned to speak fluent Italian and started playing basketball.
The Bryant family moved back to the United States when Kobe was 13 and he started playing high school basketball in Philadelphia.In Kobe"s senior year of high school,he led his school to the Pennsylvania State Championship and was named the Naismith Player of the Year.
Kobe figured he was already good enough to play in the NBA,so he skipped college and was drafted right after high school by the Charlotte Hornets in the first round of the 1996 NBA Draft.In a trade the Hornets are still crying about,they sent Kobe to the LA Lakers for center Vlade Divac.Bryant became the youngest player in NBA history at the age of 18 and has played his entire professional career for the Los Angeles Lakers.He made it through to becoming an elite player in the NBA,even though that "man"s world" presented many challenges for a person of Bryant"s age.Despite not going to college,Kobe was a quick learner on the courts of the NBA.He played in the NBA All-Star Game for the first time in 1998 and by 2000,Kobe had developed into one of basketball"s best players.Kobe and Shaquille O"Neal teamed up to lead the LA Lakers to three straight NBA Championship Titles from 2000 to 2002.Bryant has two Olympic gold medals for men"s basketball and was ranked fourth on the NBA all-time scoring list with 31,700 points.He has also won five NBA championships.
Throughout his career Bryant has been saddled with inevitable comparisons to the great Michael Jordan.Regardless of whether those comparisons have been fair,they are now largely irrelevant.Bryant is without question one of the small handful of greatest players of his era,and perhaps even of all time.

Kobe Bryant first started turning heads on the basketball court when he was in middle school.His talents dominated the game so much that high schools from all over the Philadelphia area watched him grow up.The almost six-foot tall seventh grader definitely had the make-up and genes for the game,as his dad was former NBA forward,Joe Bryant.Kobe developed his basketball skills under the watchful eye of his father,helping his mission to become a professional basketball player.He worked daily on his game,watching video,playing in the playgrounds and listening to his father.
When he entered high school at Lower Marion in Philadelphia,Kobe was a highly touted recruit.He proved that he had the skills and work ethic to be a star at the next level and the scouts noticed this.Kobe didn"t let anybody down either,as he played on the varsity basketball team his freshman year.He wouldn"t immediately be a superstar,though.Rather it was the countless hours of early morning workouts by himself in the gymnasium that escalated Kobe"s talents.
Kobe became a better player every year he played at Lower Marion and soon enough,he had developed into one of the premier talents at the high school level.He sold out the games everywhere he played during his junior and senior years and he didn"t disappoint anyone.He once packed the school gym so much that it caused a traffic jam on the main highway just outside the school.
