Lesson Reflection

Last week ,we taught to my classmates about reading. in our class. We prepared three steps, first, let students read “Christmas Eve”and answered the questions, second, team work: group together in fours and discussed about skills of reading, third, we had a conclusion and homework. Overall, the lesson went on not well. This was a presentation lesson focus on the student’ skill of reading. During the 20 minutes lesson, there were not only advanced teaching methods but also so many problems. First, I felt that the students understood everything that they want to know. The projects were put together and very informative. We combined the practice and theory very well, and popularized some skills from the practice. So students learned it more easily. Another good point was our teaching framework was very clear. On a hand, procedure of teaching was smooth, including speaking, listening, question and so on, on the other hand, the design of blackboard was simple and clear to make students know the aim of this class approximately. And there were communications between teacher and students.just as, individual thinking and group work. Students worked well with group, and they really enjoyed showing their opinions about reading.

We also had lots of aspects need to improve. As a teacher, we have to show our kindness and respect to students. but in our class, we wanted{Lesson,plan,self-reflection,and,Evaluation}.

to save the time, so gave less time to students to read and think, and spoke loudly to them without patience, which made students feel nervous and be not willing to answer the question. Second, out teaching focus were not clear. We spent lot of time on the interpretation of the passage, which result in less time on skills teaching. And then, we did not pay more attention to consider the reflection of the students. For example, we just stand in the front of the classroom when we asked students to discuss in group, so, we had no idea about their situation, their level and more. Some answers from students were not well for you.

The most critical problem was the time. We just had 20 minutes for teaching but too many contents. So, the progress of the class was fast, student can not accept of skills absolutely. Even we did not complete our teaching plan,it was too terrible. The fundamental problem was that we prepared not well, we just found the material to teaching and make a PPT, but spent no more time to practice teaching.

I would change the next time I do in this class is to give at least 5 days for preparing and completing. And in class, I should pay more attention to students, give more chance to them that they will show more their ideas.

Reflection on Microteaching Course

Our Microteaching course has come to an end. First of all, I’d like to express my appreciation to Professor Yan. You’re so kind and so hard-working. I really like this course for its free astmosphere, and like Yan’s teaching style. Meanwhile, I really learnt a lot from this course before being a teacher. I learnt how to make a good lesson plan, how to prepare for a lesson, how to improve my teaching skills, how to perform well on the stage, how to encourge students, and how to be confident.

1. Confidence

The first thing I want to say is about confidence. I think it is the most important character of a teacher. Teacher with confidence will be more attractive to students. A teacher can't teach without confidence. Students won't believe in a teacher who doesn't believe in themself. Great teachers are confident that they know how to teach, and in what they are teaching. Nothing stands in the way of this confidence, and the teacher does their best not to become arrogant about the job they do.

2. Prepared

Excellent teachers are prepared. They know they steps necessary in their curriculum to teach students, and follow them well. These teachers are always ready to go when the time calls for it and they never leave their students lost and not knowing the direction they are headed.

When I did my Microteaching show, I was very nervous, for I didn’t

prepare well for it. So when I stant on the stage, attempted to teach my students Pronunciation, I forgot my following steps several times, and made some mistakes. Getting fully ready will not only promise me a smooth and fluent teaching but help relieve my nervousness. Great teachers stick to the plans they've prepared.

3. Professionalism

Professionalism is the sign of a teacher. I taught students Pronunciation, but I couldn’t do well in my oral English. As Yan said, the teacher himself is the best model. If you couldn’t do well, how can you ask your students to learn well. So I must spend more time to practice my Oral English.

As someone who is responsible for helping people learn, teachers must take their work seriously. Terrific teachers dress well, have good hygiene, and treat their students with respect. They believe in timeliness, and are never late and rarely miss days they are assigned to work. In do so, their students respect them, and are more willing to learn from them.

4. Stage performance

Many of us standing on the stage didn’t perform like a teacher. For example, some may stand there without any movement, some may do many unnecessary movements, some may speak without any change of their voice or speak with a low volume, some may lower their heads and keep their eyes on the PPT instead of the students and so on so forth.

I know there is a long way to go for us to perform well on the stage. But practice makes better. Standing upright, keeping smile, communicating with students, speaking with high voice and changing intonation contribute to our stage performance.

5. Positive reinforcement

Instead of using strict punishment to discipline students, we should know how to use positive reinforcement to discipline instead. We should understand that negatively hinders how their students learn, creates resentment in the students minds, and ends up breaking the ties of the student-teacher relationship. Often these teachers reward their students for doing a good job, so they are more apt to doing it in the future. So when students didn’t perform well in my class, I will try my best to encourage them.

6. Good arrangement

A good arrangement is very important. It ususally can help students understand your lesson better. For example, before coming into a new knowledge we’d better introduce some background knowledge, which can help students get more information. An interesting warming-up can draw more attention. A brief conclusion can help students learn better. Some activities contribute to our class usually.

7. Good communication

A teacher has the responsibility of bridging the gap between{Lesson,plan,self-reflection,and,Evaluation}.

themselves and their students, so good communication skills are a must. It's difficult sometimes to relate to people, especially children, so that learning can happen in their minds, but excellent teachers are masters of this. Relating to students on the student's level, these teachers have developed many ways to reach their students, and communicate using terrific speaking skills, visual aids, and even in their body language.

8. Polite

A teacher should be polite. When should say “please” when we give instructions, and they should say “thank you” when a student replied to us. I think as a teacher we should master more teacher languages, such as the words to encourage students, the words to praise students, the words to apologize to students and so on.

There are many skills that make up a good teacher, and these are some of the most important ones I learnt from our microteaching class. The next time you think about that awesome teacher you had, whomever it may be, think about these skills and what it takes to be a person who lives a life of admiration. There is a long way to go, but if we truly learn from everything, then we can become good teacher finally.
